Editorial Policy

Editorial Policy

How ThePayGuide researches, writes, reviews, and maintains its content. This policy applies to every page on the site.

Our standards

Primary sources first. Salary, tax, and withholding figures come from official government sources — the IRS, SSA, BLS, and state departments of revenue. We do not base figures on other commercial websites.

Accuracy over speed. Because our content covers money, we prioritize getting figures right, checked against the issuing authority before publication.

Clear dating. Every page with time-sensitive figures is date-stamped and labeled with the tax year it reflects.

Plain language. We explain pay and tax concepts without unnecessary jargon and link to authoritative references.

How content is created

  1. Research — gather relevant primary data for the topic.
  2. Drafting — written to answer the reader’s actual question, with specific figures and context.
  3. Review — figures checked against source data; calculations tested against our Methodology.
  4. Publication — dated and labeled with its tax year.

Updates and corrections

Scheduled updates each tax year when the IRS and SSA publish new figures, and when BLS releases new wage data. Corrections to material financial figures are made as soon as they’re verified. Report a suspected error through our Contact page — we review every report.

Independence and advertising

ThePayGuide may display advertising and earn affiliate commissions from some links. This never influences our figures or editorial conclusions — our numbers come from government data regardless of any commercial relationship — and any relationship that could reasonably affect a reader’s decision is disclosed.
